2022 Masters odds, picks, predictions: Tiger Woods projection from proven golf model that nailed US Open

Typically, the “game-time decision” tag is meant for football or basketball players, but that’s the distinction being used to describe whether Tiger Woods will compete for his sixth green jacket at the 2022 Masters. His last competitive PGA appearance came in November 2020 during the rescheduled Masters, when he finished 38th. Considering Woods’ rehabilitation from a February 2020 car accident and his time away from competition, is he worth considering among your 2022 Masters long shot picks when the first 2022 Masters tee times begin on Thursday?

Caesars Sportsbook lists Woods as a 50-1 long shot to win in its live 2022 Masters odds. To win again, he’ll have to beat a competitive 2022 Masters field led by Jon Rahm (10-1), Scottie Scheffler (16-1), and Brooks Koepka (20-1). Before locking in your 2022 Masters picks or locking in any PGS DFS picks on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

SportsLine’s proprietary model, built by DFS for Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, it’s up over $ 8,000 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

At the 2021 Open Championship, McClure’s best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. In addition, McClure’s model was all over Jon Rahm’s (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 US Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also nailed a whopping seven majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Masters 2022 field is set, SportsLine simulated the event 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2022 Masters leaderboard.

Models top 2022 Masters predictions

One huge shocker the model is calling for at the Masters 2022: McIlroy, a 20-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles at Augusta and finishes outside the top 10. After opening his season with a win in the CJ Cup last October, McIlroy only has one other top-10 finish this season, at the Genesis Invitational. Over the last three years at the Masters, McIlroy finished 21st in 2019, fifth in 2020, and missed the cut last year.

In his last two tournaments, he finished 33rd at the Players Championship and missed another cut last weekend at the Valero Texas Open. This season, McIlroy is carrying a putting average of 1,761, which ranks outside the top 120 in that category, and has an underwhelming sand save rate of 56.67 percent, which is outside the top 40.

The model has also examined Tiger Woods’ chances of playing in the 2022 Masters. In recent days, Woods Tweeted, “I will be heading up to Augusta today to continue my preparation and practice. It will be a game-time decision on whether I compete.”

As recently as November 2021, Woods said he’d like to “pick and choose a few events a year” in which he could play, and there’s no place he’d rather compete than Augusta National. While he hasn’t played a tour event since 2020, he participated in a non-tour event last December, the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie. In that event, Team Woods finished as the runner-up.

Competing at the 2022 Masters would be special not just due to the circumstances currently surrounding Woods, but also because it’s an anniversary edition for the legendary golfer. It marks the 25th anniversary of his historic 1997 win that entered Woods into the public consciousness. The model just locked in its Tiger Woods Masters picks here.
